As the Antarctic winter draws to a close, our winterovers picked up some extra responsibility. Last week opened with a Zoom meeting between the current winterovers and the recruits for next year, during which Moreno and Celas shared their experiences, words of advice, and warnings about the South Pole delicacies. Later in the week, they were paged to the IceCube Lab (ICL) in response to DOM power check failures. Luckily, the issues were resolved, allowing for a relatively relaxing slide into the weekend. Other activities included trivia (Moreno’s team won!), and the film showings of the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica (WIFFA) (stay tuned for the results of the festival). Celas also managed to snap a few photos to document the lightening sky. Pictured above is a photo of the ICL against the early dawn sky. Below, lights can be seen at the dawn on the horizon, with the sun ever-closer to reaching the South Pole.
