Apparently detectors go on holiday, too. IceCube required little attention last week from its winterovers. Still, there was work to do. And then there was play, of sorts. Last week was the third annual “Bermingman,” where folks go out into the berms to dig for buried treasure. The inaugural event had a celebratory cake and everything. The berms are essentially outdoor storage areas, categorized by their contents. This year’s event was held in the lumber berm (not sure what they actually uncovered). Things are buried because of accumulated snow, not from actual snowfall but from storms and winds that blow in and deposit snow. In fact, just after this last Bermingman, a huge wall of snow appeared on the horizon, which can be seen in the bottom photo and in the close-up above. Ready to bury some more treasure.
