Their time at the Pole may be coming to an end, but apparently their beards are not! IceCube winterovers Martin and James are sporting some fine beards while they happily tackle their work in the dish pit. It’s a small community that remains on station over the winter (see their annual group photo at bottom), so everyone takes turns chipping in for chores. When not working, there’s always time for relaxing. Another winterover has pulled up a chair outside the IceCube Lab to watch the sunrise, but surely not the whole thing—it’s a slow process, plus it’s cold out there, sun or no sun. The increasing daylight is letting the landscape, with its natural sculptures, take center stage for a while.
